A MiG-21 fighter plane of the Indian Air Force crashed near Barmer district in Rajasthan, More details about the pilots’ names are being sought.

“It was an IAF plane that crashed near Bhimda village in Baytoo,” Barmer District Collector Lok Bandu told PTI. A Russian-designed plane, The MiG-21 is among the most accident-prone IAF fighter aircraft.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh spoke to Indian Air Force chief Marshal VR Chaudhari about the incident at Barmer. The IAF chief informed him about the incident in full detail.

Five MiG-21s crashed in India and resulted in the deaths of three pilots. In December of last year, the IAF pilot Air Chief Harshit Sinha was killed when the MiG-21 fighter aircraft was destroyed within Rajasthan’s Jaisalmer during a practice flight.

On July 28, the second MiG-21 aircraft, which was on a training mission, was destroyed near the village of the Rajasthan’s Barmer district. However, the pilot was able to exit the aircraft safely.

The same incident happened in May of that year, near Moga in Punjab, which caused the pilot’s death. In the incident, an IAF aircraft was conducting a routine training flight at the time of the incident.

In March, a Group Captain from the IAF was killed in an accident involving MiG-21 aircraft at one of the bases in central India. Group Captain A Gupta was killed in the crash.

In January MiG-21 aircraft belonging to the Indian Air Force crashed near Suratgarh in Rajasthan. The pilot was able to exit the plane safely.
